Wes Odell

Sun City's Wes Odell is a well-known and award winning photographer. You can view his 19th Century “Vintage Renditions” at the Rock Street Gallery in November ‘26.

Wes specializes in two genres: Photo-Journalism, particularly of local people “doing their thing” such as rodeo, boxing, Etchings, and folklore dancing. His other is making prints, some that could be monochrome prints, of “oldtime things and people” ...... capturing images before they vanish forever to the bulldozer, especially action shots.

“I had a camera when I was 10 (in 1944) and a chemical (wet) darkroom in 1946. Photography was all ”film” and the larger the negative (the developed film) the larger one could create a “contact print.” Enlargers were expensive. Nothing much changed except the number of camera varieties and film types until “digital” came along in the 2000’s. During that time some wonderful photo prints and slides were created by very talented chemists/photographers. At that time, I always had a camera, of different brands and types and soon gave up the chemical darkroom. Today, my digital work is a “take-off” of my film processes. “Keep it simple, stupid.” “KISS”

As mentioned above my primary interest lies in creating prints that could have been taken in the 1800’s. You don’t often see these. This exhibit’s limited space prevents me from showing more than just a few. Next month I’ll be 92 and it’s soon going to be time to call it a “life-time.” Everything and more is for sale, and I can make a deal if you want to discuss.

Let me know your interest and I’ll see if I have a match in my inventory. 512 863 8283
